Jonny May to face disciplinary hearing after first match back
Gloucester winger Jonny May has been cited for a dangerous tackle against Bath on Friday night at Kingsholm in the Gallagher Premiership.
The 33-year-old will face an independent disciplinary panel on Tuesday evening, with the verdict being announced on Wednesday.
This was May’s first match back after the being with England for the World Cup, but he could not prevent the Cherry and Whites falling to a 45-27 loss to their West Country rivals. The winger retired from international rugby soon after the tournament, where England finished third.
A Gloucester statement reads: “Jonny May, Gloucester Rugby, has been cited for reckless or dangerous play, contrary to World Rugby Law 9.11, or in the alternative Law 19.13, dangerous tackling, during a game against Bath on 10 November.
“The case will be heard by an independent disciplinary panel chaired by Matthew Weaver KC sitting with Daniel Gore and Christian Scotland-Williamson on Tuesday 14 November (after 6pm).
“The verdict will be announced on Wednesday 15 November.”

The writer here ignores the fact that, following on from not taking the penalty kick, the All Blacks did manage to score a try a few minutes later. Not directly from the penalty awarded, but it is speculation to say that had they opted to take the koi they would have won. Even if they kicked it, which was no guarantee, they would still be trailing and would have had to start again at half-way.
