Mat Rogers is a former dual code international who played rugby league and rugby union for Australia. Today, he’s a media personality and charity ambassador.
During his school years, Mat Rogers played both forms of the game. However, he excelled at rugby union and even played opposite Jonny Wilkinson and Jonah Lomu during his younger years.
However, by 1995, Mat Rogers had decided that rugby league was his preferred version of the game. As a result, he signed for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, his father’s former team. He then went on to represent the team until 2001. In his 123 appearances for the side, he scored an impressive 75 tries and amassed more than 1,000 points. Due to his success for the Cronulla-Sutherland Sharks, Mat Rogers was selected to play for Queensland in State of Origin and he made 11 appearances for Australia, including seven tests.
At the end of the 2001 season, Mat Rogers switched codes and signed for the NSW Waratahs. He was then immediately successful in rugby union and played his first game for Australia in 2002. He went on to represent the Wallabies 45 times between 2002 and 2006.
In 2007, Mat Rogers returned to rugby league, signing for the Gold Coast Titans. He then retired from the sport in 2010, but made a comeback in 2011 when the Titans were playing poorly. However, he broke his foot during his first game back and his career came to a close.
Since retiring from rugby, Mat Rogers has become an ambassador for several charities. He’s also a media personality in Australia, where he’s competed in shows like Survivor and Dancing with the Stars.
