Gabrielle Vernier currently plays as a centre for the French women’s rugby union team and Blagnac Rugby Féminin. She was signed to the national squad in 2017 and made her first appearance during the same year.
Born on 12 June 1997, Vernier developed an interest in rugby during her childhood. She first began training at the age of 10 for Rueil Athletic Club, located just outside of Paris. She spent four years at the club, where she became more knowledgeable and passionate about the sport. However, the club had no junior side and Vernier subsequently spent the next three years at Racing Club Nanterre.
Next, Vernier moved north to Lille to pursue her studies and enhance her rugby skills. In 2016, she made her senior debut for Lille MRCV. She won the French championship during her first season. She was then selected for the U20s team and her senior debut came one year later on 11 November 2017, in a match against Spain.
Always eager to enhance her game, Vernier is a skillful and award-winning player. She was named as the Six Nations Player of Round 1 in 2021 after her impressive performance against Wales – the French side dominated and won the match 53-0.
Vernier was selected for the 2021 Rugby World Cup and featured in the team’s opening game against South Africa. Her golden moment occurred during the semi-finals, when she scored a try in their match against New Zealand.

Analysis: If you were to select a women’s World XV, Gabrielle Vernier would probably be the first name on the team sheet right now. It’s probably fair to say she’s the best centre in the women’s game along with a fully-fit Emily Scarratt.
