Marlie Packer is a flanker and one of the most capped England rugby players of all time. She currently plays for Saracens Women and also represents both the national team and the national sevens team.
Born in Yeovil, Somerset on 2 October 1989, Packer started playing rugby when she was five. She trained at Ivel Barbarians in Yeovil and stayed with the side until she was 18 years old. After finishing school, she attended Yeovil College, where she became a qualified plumber.
Packer’s club career began in 2007. She played for Bath until 2009, before she signed for Bristol, where she stayed until 2013. She then signed for Wasps before finally moving to Saracens in 2017. She’s remained with Saracens ever since.
On the international stage, Packer has earned her reputation as a fierce competitor. She represented England during the 2013 Rugby World Cup Sevens and the team finished in third place. She was also selected for the 15s team and started in the 2014, 2017 and 2021 Rugby World Cup finals.
Packer is particularly well known for her Six Nations accomplishments. She has won five Six Nations titles (2017, 2019, 2020, 2021 and 2022) and four Grand Slams (2017, 2019, 2020 and 2022).
In 2019, Packer signed her full time contract with England. Following an ankle injury, she returned for the 2021 Rugby World Cup and scored a hat-trick during England’s quarter-final match against Australia. Her outstanding performance led to her being named as RPA’s England Women Player of the Year for 2022.
