Tadhg Furlong is a star of world rugby. An elite scrummager, he’s widely considered to be one of the best forwards in the game today. An ever present for Ireland and Leinster, he’s won almost every trophy on offer in the sport.
Born 14 November 1992, Tadhg Furlong comes from a farming family. However, he began playing rugby at a young age. His power and skill were immediately noticed and he was signed by the Leinster Academy in his teenage years. After several impressive performances, he made his debut for the first XV in 2013.
Tadhg Furlong has played for Leinster ever since and has now appeared for the first XV more than 100 times. During this period, he’s helped the side capture the PRO14 four times in a row and has also lifted the Heineken Champions Cup.
Unsurprisingly, thanks to his impressive performances for Leinster, Tadhg Furlong was called into the Ireland squad for the first time in 2015. Immediately after his debut, he was named in the Ireland squad for the Rugby World Cup. Since, he’s been ever present for the side and he played an integral role in Ireland’s 2018 Six Nations Grand Slam victory.
Thanks to a string of impressive performances for Ireland, Tadhg Furlong was also called into the British and Irish Lions squad in 2017. He appeared in all three tests as the Lions gained an impressive draw against New Zealand. He’s also been named in the Lions squad for their 2021 tour of South Africa.
With many years of elite rugby ahead of him, we can’t wait to see what else Tadhg Furlong can achieve in the game.
