Gareth Davies is a talented Welsh scrum-half and prolific try scorer. A popular and established player, he is a regular name on the team sheets for both club and country.
Born in Carmarthen, Wales in August 1990, Gareth Davies played rugby from a young age and in his youth joined the Scarlets Academy in 2006. However, he also played at amateur level for Bridgend Sports RFC and Newcastle Emlyn RFC and gained experience playing with feeder clubs Llanelli RFC and Carmarthen Quins in the Welsh Premier Division.
Gareth Davies then moved into the senior Scarlets squad and quickly made a big impression. In what was the 2013-14 PRO12 season he was the top try scorer and helped the side to the title in the 2016-17 season. To date he remains a Scarlets player and has now made over 200 appearances, scoring over 100 points.
He first caught the attention of the Wales national side in his top try scoring season and he made his debut in the same year in Wales’ summer tour of South Africa in 2014. Davies was then a part of the squad for the 2015 World Cup and has since received regular call ups for a variety of internationals. A few career highlights at this level for Gareth Davies include scoring tries in all three pool games of the 2015 World Cup and playing all five games in Wales’ Grand Slam Six Nations win in 2019.
In May 2021, his continuing fine form has also seen him be rewarded with a call up by coach Warren Gatland to the squad for the upcoming 2021 British & Irish Lions summer tour to South Africa.
