Given how dominant the side are now, it’s hard to believe that the Crusaders Rugby team struggled in the early days of Super Rugby (then known as the Super 12). In fact, in their first ever season in the competition, the Crusaders Rugby team came last.
However, they soon found their footing. In the next season, the Crusaders Rugby team finished sixth and then they never looked back. From here, they won three titles in a row between 1998 and 2000 despite all three finals being away from home. Ever since, the Crusaders have been almost untouchable in the competition. In fact, since 2002, there has only been one season when the team hasn’t at least made the knockout rounds of the competition. They’ve also been in the final on all but seven occasions. In most of these years, the team reached the semi-final stage.
